City to host workshops to assist with plastics transition

Listen to this articleThe city of Charleston is hosting two free workshops to provide businesses with tools and resources to assist with the transition to the single-use plastics ban that goes into effect Jan. 1.
The workshops, which are open to businesses, organizations and nonprofits in and around the city, will provide a review of the new ordinance, which passed in November; information on best practices and ideas to manage alternatives to single-use plastics; tips from businesses that have already made the transition; and a discussion of potential challenges and possible solutions.
Before, during and after the workshop, suppliers will be showcasing alternative products for businesses to try out and learn about, and city staff will be available to answer questions about the ordinance.
Workshops will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau at 423 King St. and from 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 30 at Lowcountry Local First’s office at 1630-2 Meeting St. RSVPs are requested.
The city plans to host workshops for residents later this year.
