A Nashville hot chicken icon will pop up for just one day in Wicker Park, giving Chicagoans a taste of one of Music City’s most popular culinary attractions. Hattie B’s Hot Chicken is bringing its Tennessee flavor to Dove’s Luncheonette at 1545 N. Damen Avenue from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on September 22, and may garner the same long lines of hungry spice-seekers that are a fixture at its various locations across the country.

During the Hattie B’s fall takeover, diners can taste its adored hot chicken plates (served with two sides, bread, and pickles) or hot chicken sandwich (cole slaw, Nashville “comeback sauce,” kosher pickle) and choose from six levels of heat. These range from “Southern” (no heat) to the searing-hot “Shut the Cluck Up!” A selection of sides like Southern greens, pimento mac and cheese, and tres leches cake for dessert will also be available.

One of the most well-recognized hot chicken restaurants out of Nashville, Hattie B’s is a family-run operation since 2012 and is venerated alongside spots like Prince’s Hot Chicken Shack and Bolton’s Spicy Chicken and Fish. The mini-chain has three locations in its home city, as well as shops in Birmingham, Alabama; Memphis, Tennessee; Atlanta; and Las Vegas.

James Beard Award-winning restaurant group One Off Hospitality opened “Mex-Tex” diner Dove’s next to Big Star in 2014. Critics lavished praise on the near-instant smash hit and it made Michelin’s 2016, 2017, and 2018 Bib Gourmand lists. The group also operates acclaimed Chicago restaurants including the Publican, Blackbird, Avec, and more.
