A man was stabbed to death at an apartment building in Chicago Heights.

Derrick Howard, 19, was fatally struck in the chest while a 26-year-old was hit in the leg and his condition was stabilized.

A man was killed and another wounded in a shooting Wednesday in Gresham on the South Side.

The two were seated in a vehicle about 7 p.m. in the 8000 block of South Emerald Avenue when people pulled up in a vehicle and opened fire, Chicago police said.

Derrick Howard, 19, was hit in the chest and pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy found that Howard died of multiple gunshot wounds. His death was ruled a homicide.

A 26-year-old was taken to the same hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg, police said. His condition was stabilized.

No one is in custody as Area South detectives investigate.
