MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office captain has been charged with a DUI after allegedly crashing into another vehicle and fleeing the scene.

Captain Ronnie E. Farley Jr, 52, is charged with driving under the influence, violation of implied consent, leaving the scene, and due care.

According to a preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, on Saturday, January 18 at approximately 2:22 p.m., Farley was traveling east on I-24  in a 2017 Toyota RAV4. Around mile marker 10 in Montgomery County, a driver in a 2011 Ford Fusion was traveling in the right lane when Farley veered from the left lane attempting to overtake the other driver and struck the vehicle.

After the collision, Farley allegedly attempted to flee the scene of the accident before becoming stuck in the median at the 12.6 mile marker. Both vehicles sustained functional damage. The Ford Fusion had two other passengers and no injuries were reported.

According to Farley’s warrants filed by THP Trooper Alex Snider, during his investigation of the wreck, Farley had difficulty maintaining balance, smelled of alcohol, and had bloodshot watery eyes. Trooper Snider, took Farley to the Exit 19 Shell Station to perform field sobriety tests although Farley denied having had anything to drink.

“Out of the six tests I had Mr. Farley do, he performed poorly on all six tests,” Snider wrote in the warrant.

Farley was charged with DUI and agreed to a breathalyzer test, but told the trooper he was “not doing” a blood test, the warrant said.

He was booked into the jail on a $1,500 bond and bonded out.

Sheriff John Fuson released the following statement about the incident:

“A senior member of my staff has found his way into a very unfortunate situation. I can only say that I am glad no one was injured and that THP is handling this in the same manner that I would expect of my deputies. We have a job to do, no matter who it involves.

We will conduct an administrative investigation into this during which time [Farley] will be placed on administrative leave. When our investigation concludes, the appropriate administrative action will be taken.”
