Relay for Life of Platte County will get underway later in the summer than expected, but it's still happening.
Organizers recently announced the annual benefit will take place from 6-11 p.m. Friday, July 19, at the Columbus High School track, 3434 Discoverer Drive.
The event was originally planned for June 22 at the same location, but was delayed to due to inclement weather.
“There will be more parking and it provides seating for all of our survivors with the bleachers,” said Lindsey Rosno, a member of the local event’s leadership team, previously.
Relay For Life is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, and staffed and coordinated by volunteers in thousands of communities and in 27 countries, according to ACS. The event specifically is a team-fundraising effort in which participants take turns walking around a designated path for an extended period of time in honor of all who have been affected by the disease.

The event itself is not just for those already registered. People can still sign up online or show up the day of the event to register a team, donate or to just hang out and support cancer survivors.
“We encourage the community to come out,” fellow event leadership team member Suanne Boswell previously said. “We want the entire community to come out and celebrate survivors with us.”
