Montgomery ISD’s year-round employees will return to school buildings June 8, MISD Interim Superintendent Ann Dixon said at a June 1 board of trustees meeting.

“We’re going to kind of use [Group 1] as a test run,” Dixon said.

Group 1 includes athletics, such as the summer strength training program and reopening the aquatic center, Dixon said.

“Those kids are ready to get trained and get in competition,” she said. “Our kids have revamped their garages and bedrooms and everything else to try and stay in shape.”

The athletics will be divided into two groups: one run by district coaches and one run by Performance Course, a personal training company, Dixon said. Both groups will be assessed when their summer programs end to determine what went well and what needed improvement, she said.

According to Performance Course’s website, the summer program runs from June 15-July 30.

On July 1, campus principals will communicate with staff and teachers to determine access to buildings and procedures for returning.

“You recall we kind of booted everybody out very quickly, and [teachers are] chomping at the bits to get back to their rooms to set them up for next year,” Dixon said.
