ICC World Cup 2019: Jason Roy Ruled Out Of The Game Against Australia

England’s star opener Jason Roy will miss the upcoming clash against arch-rivals Australia on June 25 (Tuesday) at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. He is yet to regain his full fitness and is likely to return before the end of the group stages.

Meanwhile, Jason Roy had pulled his hamstring when he was chasing the ball in the eighth over of the match against West Indies. Thus, Roy didn’t field for the rest of the innings. Furthermore, he didn’t come out to bat. Joe Root had opened in his place against West Indies. On the other hand, James Vince got a chance in the playing XI in the match against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka in place of Roy. Vince, who has been mild so far after his World Cup debut needs to hit the strides soon to make a mark.

Jason Roy had a scan at the Fortius Clinic in London on Monday morning and then came to Lord’s where the rest of the squad was training. He took to the nets, taking in a few throwdowns to test out his left leg. The opener was in fine form before copping up the injury. He has played three matches scoring 215 runs in the three games including 153 against Bangladesh.

The unavailability of Jason Roy will be a massive disadvantage for the host England. Following their defeat against Sri Lanka, England’s chances of making it to the semifinals are looking grim. They must win at least one of their final three group games against Australia, India and New Zealand to progress to the semi-finals. Currently, they are at the fourth spot in the points table with eight points from six matches.

They take on Australia next on June 25 at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. Eoin Morgan & Co have dominated the Aussies in the last ten encounters winning nine of it and will hope to continue the winning streak.
