Universal Title Match Set For WWE Money In The Bank (Raw Spoilers)

Based on the events of Raw...

For the first time ever, the WWE Universal championship will be defended at a Money in the Bank pay-per-view, a benefit of having a champion who appears on TV with regularity.

On Monday night at Raw in Des Moines, IA, a pair of triple threat matches were held, with the winners of those bouts meeting later to determine who would face champion Seth Rollins at the May 19 pay-per-view.

The opponent will be AJ Styles, by virtue of his win in the main event of Raw over Baron Corbin. Styles won a triple threat match over Samoa Joe and Rey Mysterio earlier in the night, while Corbin won his over Drew McIntyre and The Miz.

This will mark the first time Styles and Rollins have had a one-on-one match against each other in WWE. Previously, the two were on opposite sides of the five-on-five men's match at Survivor Series 2016, and were opponents in World title triple threat matches at live events earlier that year.

Their only prior one on one match took place at an NWA No Limits event in Muscatine, IA in April 2006, when Rollins (then Tyler Black) was only 19 years old. Styles won that match after close to 20 minutes of action.
