Northwestern bolstered their 2020 recruiting class with the commitment of Ty Berry, who announced his verbal commitment to the Wildcats on Wednesday. Berry’s commitment comes just a few weeks after the Wildcats received a verbal commitment from center Matt Nicholson.

Berry, a senior guard from Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas, also had offers from Big Ten rivals Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska, but still chose NU.

In a video on Twitter, Berry thanked his family, friends and his coaches for pushing him to be the best player on and off the court.

“First and foremost, I want to thank God for letting me play this game at the highest level that I can,” Berry said in the video.

According to 247 Sports, Berry is ranked 142 in the country, the 14th-best combo guard in the country and is the second-best prospect in his state. With the commitment, coach Chris Collins and staff will have four of the Cats’ top 6-ranked recruits ever on the roster in 2020.

According to RealGM, he averaged 12.3 points per game, 4.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.3 steals in eight AAU games last season. Last season, NU’s offense struggled without a true point guard, with Vic Law and A.J. Turner were the primary leaders of the offense. Collins and his staff seemed to be addressing that by bringing in freshman Boo Buie and Berry to join sophomore guard Ryan Greer.
