Statement on the Fiscal Year 2019 Budget

Tuesday, May 29, 2018

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Today, the Council of the District of Columbia unanimously approved Mayor Muriel Bowser’s Fiscal Year 2019 spending plan with only minor changes. The FY19 budget is the District’s 23rd consecutive balanced budget. Following the Council’s vote, the Mayor released the following statement:

“For the fourth year in a row, we have put together a balanced budget that represents the values of our city and gives more Washingtonians a fair shot. By investing in resources and programs that support residents and neighborhoods across all eight wards, this budget addresses the needs of a diverse and growing Washington, DC. The FY19 budget means more affordable housing, increased employment and job training opportunities, and expanded resources and relief for those in our community who need it most.

“Additionally, the FY19 budget brings us one step closer to bringing Metro back to a state of good repair —a historic moment for the District and the region.

“As we finish up this fiscal year and get ready to start the next, we remain laser-focused on spreading prosperity, building a safer, stronger DC, and creating opportunities for residents in all neighborhoods and at every stage of life to thrive.”
