Christiana Mall cuts hours of operation

Malls have cut their hours of operation in response to coronavirus and declining business.

Christiana Mall is now open from noon to 7 p.m. Occupants with outside entrances may have different hours. Dover Mall’s hours changed to 11 a.m to 7 p.m., while Concord Mall operates between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. Hours are shorter on Sundays.

Tanger Outlets in Rehoboth now operates between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Individual store hours may vary and some may be closed.

Indoor malls are typically  open in the morning hours, even before stores open, in part due to   “mall walkers.” The elderly and those with certain medical conditions have been advised to restrict their activities outside the home, due to their vulnerability to the coronavirus.

Several stores in Christiana Mall, including one of its biggest drawing cards, The Apple Store, have closed.

The state’s largest shopping center has escaped the fate of its counterparts in nearby suburban areas of Philadelphia.

Malls, including King of Prussia, have closed after doors, after initially resisting pressure from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Gov. Tom Wolf has ordered the closing of all non-essential businesses in suburban Philadelphia after seeing a cluster of cases in Montgomery County.  

Delaware now has eight cases, including its first case with no ties to the University of Delaware community.
