Jacksonville Jaguars roster updates from training camp

NFL training camp is underway and rosters will be pared down to the 53-player maximum. We’ll break down the moves as the Jacksonville Jaguars sort out their roster decisions.

Chet Gresham received his MFA in poetry from Columbia College Chicago, but after a few years teaching composition, he took his talents to the fantasy football world. He started his own site called The Fake Football, also writing for Rotoworld, The New York Times and Bleacher Report before editing and writing about the NFL in 2020 for Vox Media and DK Network.

NFL training camp is under way and that means news will start flowing from each team. How that news will be distributed in the time of Covid-19 restrictions is still to be seen, but news will get out one way or the other. We’ll take that news and give you our fantasy and betting analysis. And that news and analysis, including roster moves, injuries, all the way to hype videos, will be disseminated right here, on this very page for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Jaguars shipped off Nick Foles to the Bears and kept Gardner Minshew as their starting quarterback. The team is in rebuilding mode, but Minshew showed he can help the team compete at the very least. It will be interesting to see what he and D.J. Chark can do on a team that will need to score to compete.

Player News

High fantasy/betting impact

* Waived RB Leonard Fournette — August 31

This move has major fantasy implications, as Jacksonville no longer has a clear RB1. Ryquell Armstead has missed a ton of practice sine being placed on the Covid-19 list, so Chris Thompson, Devine Ozigbo, and James Robinson could all see their roles increased. Thompson stands out as the player with the highest upside because of his PPR potential. He’s excelled in red zone drills at camp.

* Signed TE Matt Flanagan — August 22

* Unsigned franchise player Yannick Ngakoue has not reported to Jaguars camp — source — July 30

The Jaguars have lost a lot of good defenders over the last couple of years and Ngakoue is one of the few remaining difference makers on the team. If he ends up sitting out, it will be a big loss.

Low fantasy/betting impact

* Signed DT Timmy Jernigan — August 17

* Activated TE James O’Shaughnessy from PUP list, signed DE Josh Mauro — August 12
