Date Posted: Monday, June 1st, 2020

Ellendale- The Delaware State Police have arrested 38-year-old PATRICK J. CAREY for 5th Offense DUI after he was involved in a single vehicle crash.

The incident occurred on May 31, 2020 at approximately 9:26 p.m., when Troopers responded to a residence in the 12000 block of Dupont Boulevard in reference to a crash.  Upon arrival, Troopers learned that a white ford pickup truck, driven by Carey had exited the roadway onto the lawn of the residence where it struck a standing tree and two wooden poles.

Upon contact with Carey, Troopers observed that he appeared to be confused and a DUI investigation ensued.  A computer inquiry revealed that Carey had four prior DUI arrests, making this his fifth offense.  Carey was taken into custody without incident and a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of drug paraphernalia.  Carey was transported back to Troop 7 where he was charged with the following:

  • 5th Offense after 4 prior offenses – Driving a Vehicle under the Influence
  •  Driving While Suspended or Revoked
  • Failure to Have Insurance Identification in Possession
  • Failure to Provide Information At Collision Scene Resulting in Property Damage
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Carey was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $6201.00 cash only bond.
