Traffic Stop Leads To Drug and Weapon Charges – Dover

Dover- The Delaware State Police arrested 30-year-old Markus King of Dover, DE, after a traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs and a weapon.

The incident occurred on July 18, 2020, at approximately 2:25 p.m., when a Trooper observed a green 2015 Dodge Challenger traveling at a high rate of speed and making an improper lane change, southbound on South DuPont Highway (Rt. 13) North of Walnut Shade Road. A traffic stop was initiated and contact was made with the driver, Markus King. Troopers smelled an odor of marijuana emitting from inside the vehicle and detained King for further investigation.

A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of the following:

  •  Loaded Springfield .45 caliber handgun with an extended magazine
  •  Approximately 15.81 grams of marijuana
  • Approximately 1.93 grams of hallucinogenic mushrooms
  • Digital Scale
  • Over $700.00 in suspected drug proceeds

King was taken into custody without incident and transported back to Troop 3 where he was charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon by Person Prohibited (felony)
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (felony)
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Speeding
  • Improper Lane Change

King was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and was released on $9,502.00 unsecured bond.
