Kohima, May 22 (EMN): The nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of novel coronavirus (Covid-19) has left millions with no means of livelihood, forcing a reverse migration of workers, especially daily wage earners, in the process.

This tragic story is also being played out in Nagaland as thousands of migrant workers, left jobless, continue to embark on their painful return journey to their respective home states.

On Friday, Kevingoto Kulnu, the extra assistant commissioner (EAC) of Kohima, informed Eastern Mirror that about 2,465 (cumulative) migrant workers in the district have been screened and issued inter-state movement permit as of May 21 evening.

He said that 164 persons were screened on May 21 alone.

According to the EAC, majority of those persons were from Assam and Bihar.

Kulnu said that many had left when the government provided transportation till Dimapur, a couple of weeks ago.

Since then, those who have applied for inter-state movement permit are arranging transportation on their own, he informed.
