NEW DELHI: Aiming at attracting domestic and foreign tourists, Union Territories of Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli today unveiled their vision of promoting the region as world class tourist destinations.

"Our Incredible India campaign has been highly successful. However, for maximising our tourism potential, the government's effort needs to be supplemented by each state government and Union Territory administration," Tourism Minister Sripad Naik said here today while launching a new tourism brand logo, common for both the Union Territories.

With the tagline "Small is big", the new logo for the both UTs aim to encapsulates the core appeal of the region - while they are small dots on the map, they have so much more to offer in the form of culture, heritage, architecture and natural wonders.

Naik said many states and UTs are already well known for their tourism potential and have also been proactive in promoting their destinations across the national as well as international level "but there are others that are now trying to make a beginning".

Lamenting that people of India were still not aware about the tourist attractions in these UTs, Naik said, "Both Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli share their rich history with Goa. While Goa is already world famous as a tourist destination, very few people know that Daman and Diu are also endowed with excellent beaches and rich Portuguese heritage."

Dadra and Nagar Haveli on the other hand has lovely forests, lakes and gardens which make it an enviable destination to spend time with nature, he added.

Vision 2020 - Dadra and Nagar Haveli - was also released on the occasion showcasing various landmark tourism project and investment plan to boost tourism in the UT.

Tourism projects include water front development, establishment of state museums, stadia, cycling track and ocean aquarium among others.

Describing the occasion as a "landmark" for both the Union Territories, Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said "these small pockets of our country showcase what is India."

Referring to the proposed 25-km long cycling track in Diu, Rijiju said when the track would be completed, the territory would be known as cycling capital of the country.

"Our aim is to make these territories amongst the most exciting and activity-filled destinations in the world. Our marketing campaign will present the Union Territories at their finest," said Bhupinder Bhalla, Administrator of both the UTs.
