Govt has filed an affidavit before the Supreme Court and has served a copy of it to all the petitioners in the #RafaleDeal case
After Congress' big charge about the 'missing CAG report', government has today filed an affidavit before the Supreme Court to make a factual 'correction' in a paragraph in the Rafale judgement passed yesterday, in which a reference was made about the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report and Parliament's Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

The Supreme Court had yesterday given a clean chit to the government and had rejected a bunch of pleas for probe into the Rafale figher jet deal. In the judgement, the apex court noted that the pricing details have been shared with CAG, and the report of the CAG has been examined by the PAC. The issue of CAG and PAC was mentioned in para 25 of the judgement of the top court which had held that there were no irregularities in the procurement of 36 Rafale jets from France.

According to a PTI report, the government today filed an application to convey to the court that there has been some misinterpretation on the issue of the documents placed in a sealed cover relating to the CAG and PAC.

    CAGOthers

Yesterday, the CAG report, relying on which the Supreme Court dismissed the petitions, turned out to be the latest flashpoint over the Modi government's decision to buy 36 French built fighters. The Congress had charged that government never shared the CAG report to PAC that is headed by Congress party leader Mallikarjun Kharge.

However, the government refuted the charge, claiming that it never "misled" the Supreme Court on the CAG report and it seems there was a "typing-error", for which the government today submitted a notification in Supreme Court for correction.

While the Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi-led bench in the verdict said that the "pricing details have been shared with the CAG, and the report of the CAG has been examined by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC)", the Congress maintained that "no portion of the CAG report has been placed before Parliament or placed in the public domain".

In a press conference yesterday, Rahul Gandhi had charged that the PAC chief Kharge has not seen the CAG report and the government has misled the apex court.

According to reports, the CAG report on the Rafale is still under preparation and may only come out next year.
