BJP’s acceptability is growing fast in the Christian dominated state .
The BJP will win around 25 of the 40 assembly seats in Mizoram, where it got a 3% vote share in 2013, says party state president JV Hluna. BJP’s acceptability is growing fast in the Christian dominated state that is going to polls later this month, and it is no longer a vaipawl (outsider) here, the historianturned-politician tells Bikash Singh. Excerpts:

The Congress and other parties are attacking the BJP as anti-Christian.
BJP’s constitution states that the party believes in positive secularism and like the Congress we are a national party. When 30 years back the Congress started its activity in the state, it was branded as vaipawl. During the heights of insurgency, Congress people were prevented from filing nomination by undergrounds. However, for several terms, the Congress ruled the state and people started accepting the Congress. Similarly, we are present in Mizoram for quite some time now and our acceptability among the people is growing tremendously. We have given ticket to two pastors and a reverend.

Some leaders say there is a fight between the Congress and opposition Mizo National Front (MNF), and the BJP cannot make any big dent in the state…
In 2013, we had put up eight candidates and we managed to garner a vote share of 3%. This time we have put up 39 candidates. One person could not file nomination for he had applied for voluntary retirement from government job, however his papers were not processed in time. In Tripura where the BJP came to power early this year, we hardly had any MLA prior to that. In Mizoram too we hardly have MLAs, but we will win around 25 seats.

The Congress is saying BJP and MNF have an understanding…
    We both are fighting solo.

Congress alleged BJP wants to rule through remote control…
In the post-poll scenario, if the BJP does not have a majority, Congress MLAs will merge with the BJP.
