New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Police claims to have cracked the twin cases of the alleged cow slaughter and the killing of Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh in Bulandshahr with the arrest of the main accused in both matters, but some key pieces are still missing from what continues to be a puzzle – the absence of explanation of the oft-cited “conspiracy” behind the violence and Singh’s pistol with which he was shot.
The state police has so far cited no political connections of eight persons arrested for slaughter of four cows on December 1-2 which is said to have led to the violence on December 3.

However, local BJP leaders have alluded to the links of the main accused Haroon Khan Mohammad, who was arrested on Saturday, with the Samajwadi Party.

CM Yogi Adityanath had said that the violence was the result of a conspiracy.

However, the police have not said this so far. As per the police, the eight arrested men, led by Haroon and Nadeem, shot four cows with two licensed guns and threw away their remains in a field which were later spotted by locals. The police said that the accused were arrested in batches on December 18 and 29 while plotting more such incidents of cow slaughter.

Similarly, in the case of the murder of Inspector Singh, police claims to have arrested the “main accused” Prashant Natt but intriguingly did not seek his police custody from the court for even a single day and sent him to jail. This was the case despite the fact that the pistol used by Natt to shoot Singh– a key evidence without which the case may well collapse – has not been recovered so far.

The state police said the pistol was Singh’s licensed gun which was snatched by Natt. On Saturday, police paraded an “eyewitness” named Mukesh Kumar before media who claimed that he had seen Natt fire at the inspector. While police claims to have video evidence of Natt arguing with Singh, there is no publicly available video which shows the firing.
