    Constructing product pipeline between India and Myanmar to transport petroleum: Assam industry minister

    Patwary said the capacity of two refineries Numaligarh Refinery and Bongaigaon Refinery is augmented following which Indian export petroleum products will be exported to Myanmar.

    GUWAHATI: Assam industry minister Chandra Mohan Patwary said that a product pipeline will be constructed between India and Myanmar to transport petroleum product from Northeast India to Myanmar. IIM Kolkata will assist Assam government in obtaining geographical indication for Assam tea.

    Patwary said capacity of two refineries Numaligarh Refinery and Bongaigaon Refinery is augmented following which Indian export petroleum products will be exported to Myanmar. “The work for Barauni in Bihar to Guwahati in Assam pipeline has started by GAIL India Limited. The project will require over Rs 6,000 crore investment.”

    The industry minister said, “While efforts are made to set up steal and rod unit with investment of Rs 900 crore, state government planned to set up Pharma Park in Sipajhar, Textile Park in Jagiroad and an MSME park. PepsiCo India is setting up a unit in Rampur with an investment of Rs 200 crore. We are also in the process of setting up Jogighopa multimodel logistic hub, which is expected to connect Northeast India with South East Asian countries. The project will involve cost of Rs 600 crore.”

    Patwary said, “We are in talks with ITC – Matches & Agarbatti Division for sourcing bamboo sticks from Assam. Cycle brand Agarbatti has assured us they are looking to source 300 tonnes of agarbatti from Assam.”

    He added that Assam government will engage IIM Kolkata to getting Geographical indication registry for Assam tea. “Presently tea industry is facing a rough patch and we are taking steps to improve the conditions of the industry.”

    To attract the Japanese and Korean companies, Assam will hold Indo-Japan and Indo-Korea meet. Patwary said that Indo- Bangladesh business summit will be held on October 22 and 23 which will be attended by six union ministers and ministers from Bangladesh besides 60 member delegation from Bangladesh will participate in the summit.

    He added, “We are trying to get Japanese companies to invest in Assam and we will organise Indo-Japan and Indo-Korea meet".
