    In 15 year rule of Congress in Assam highest number of minority people died: Assam finance minister

    Guwahati: Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday said that during the 15 year rule of congress in Assam highest number of minority people died.

    Addressing an election rally in minority dominated Jania assembly seat, Sarma said, “If you go through the history, across the country highest number of minority people died in Assam during the 15 year rule of Tarun Gogoi.”

    Tarun Gogoi was leading the congress government from 2001 to 2016.

    Sarma said, “It is a congress way to frighten the minorities and get votes. It is during the congress rule that communal clashes takes place. Congress creates fear and rules.”

    Asking the voters to vote for BJP candidate as BJP government in Centre and in state will ensure development of the area, Sarma said, “It is not possible for All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) to do development in one and half year and people have seen what congress MLA has done in last three years. Congress is riddled by infighting”

    Assam will go to assembly polls in 2021. State unit BJP president Ranjit Kumar Dass said that BJP will all the four seats bye polls of which will be held on October 21.

    Dass said that, “We will win over 90 seats in the 2021 assembly polls in the state”.

    BJP has set a target of winning over 100 seats in the next assembly polls. Assam has 126 assembly seats.

    The four assembly seats that will go to by-election are Sonari, Rangapara, Ratabari and Jania. Except Jania which was under Congress’s hold, three constituencies were won by BJP in 2016 assembly polls.

    Bye election was necessitated as the Tapan Gogoi (Sonari), Pallab Lochan Das (Rangapara), and Kripanath Mallah (Ratabari) of BJP respectively won in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Jania MLA Abdul Kalaque to won the Lok Sabha polls from Barpeta and vacated the seat. While Gogoi was power minister, Das was Labour minister.
