    Non bailable case against those violating norms at quarantine centre: Himanta Biswa Sarma

    Around 61 passengers were arrested and cases were registered by the police and railways authorities after these people pulled the chain of the train in order to evade the quarantine.

    Guwahati: Assam health minister Himanta Biswas Sarma on Thursday said that those creating ruckus in quarantine Centre and violating the norms will be slapped with non bailable case like attempt to murder.

    Around 50 people who came in trains recently were tested positive, these people are kept in Guwahati and Hojai.

    Sarma said, “Some people are creating ruckus in the quarantine center and trying to infect others with the disease by violating the quarantine norms. We have decided to bring non bailable case, attempt to murder against those people. This will mean that they will have to stay for three to four months more.”

    He said, “If someone has some problem, they must tell us and we will get it resolved. However indiscipline will not be tolerated.”

    A senior police official said, “56 passengers were arrested in Hojai by Railway Protection Force (RPF) while others were arrested by Assam Police in coordination with Government Railway Police Force (GRPF).”

    Sarma said, “Such people will ultimately go to their family so the family members must ensure that these people are sent to the quarantine Center for they remaining in the family will be fatal to other members.”

    A section of patients vandalised a COVID-19 care center in Agartala reportedly alleging “poor quality food”, forcing the authorities to initiate a probe into incident.

    Reacting to Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly, Debabrata Saikia allegation that health minister must go for quarantine after a doctor who was present in the programme which the minister attended tested positive said that his job is to look after patients and not to satisfy opposition leaders.

    Sarma said, “If I go for quarantine, will Saikia do my work. It is not the time to do all this. My job is to ensure that patients get well and return home. I have to ensure treatment for 1600 patients.”
