Mamata vs Centre: SC to hear CBI plea tomorrow seeking arrest of Bengal police commissioner
The Supreme Court will on Tuesday hear a plea by the CBI seeking arrest of Bengal police commissioner Rajeev Kumar in connection with the Sarada chit fund case.
The CBI had tried to arrest him on Sunday prompting Bengal police to arrest the CBI team.

The CBI claimed that the police commissioner was a key accused in the case and expressed fears that he would destroy electronic evidence to show alleged RTGS payments.

The CBI also sought contempt action against him for being seen at the dharna of the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Mamata is touting it as a classic case of misuse of the CBI to harass political opponents and against the principles of federalism. On the other hand the CBI claimed that it had issued four summons to the police commissioner and also sought permission of state DGP to arrest him.

Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi appearing for the state said that the police commissioner was only a witness and not an accused in the case.
