Referring to the government’s decision to abrogate Article 370, Jaishankar was blunt. “370 was our business.
New Delhi: External affairs minister S Jaishankar on Monday while pointing out that the current US administration has made trade issues alot more central to its foreign policy, said that there is no obstacle that can’t be resolved between Delhi and Washington.
“This US administration has made trade issues a lot more central to foreign policy. I don't see any obstacle that can't be overcome between the United States and India. No issues on trade that cannot be sorted out with the US. USTR Lightizer was positive when we spoke,” Jaishankar said while participating at an interactive session on Indo-US partnership organised by the US India Strategic Partnership Forum, a leading public policy body for bilateral partnership.
Referring to the government’s decision to abrogate Article 370, Jaishankar was blunt. “370 was our business.
We prioritised engaging governments of different countries to explain why we did this. By the time I went to the US, the larger problem was the English liberal media.”

Maintaining that India will continue to pursue independent and autonomous foreign policy, the minister said, “A lot of the concerns expressed in the world about US are alliance related problems. India has always had an independent relationship with the US, so doesn’t have those problems.”
Themed "Partners of Growth", USISPF’s second annual India Leadership Summit was also attended by commerce & industry minister Piyush Goyal, former US Secretary of State and statesman Henry Kessinger, Condoleezza Rice among others.
USISPF president Mukesh Aghi told ET that this Summit, close on the heels of PM’s visit to the USA, will generate further interest among US firms to invest in India taking advantage of the lower corporate taxes.
However, Pradeep Mehta, Secretary General, CUTS International (A leading global public policy research and advocacy group) told ET "Policy developed on the basis of aggregate of various interests is not so smooth in view of silos in governments or even coherent thinking as seen on US finding faults with India's trade policy without considering the strategic nature of its relations."
