Over the last year, SDMC generated 6,615 KW solar power from the panels installed at 152 corporation buildings.

SDMC commissioner Gyanesh Bharti said the move not only helped reduce the corporation’s electricity bills but also added to their coffers. “We were able to generate 2.64 lakh units of electricity with the solar panels. Of this, 83,000 units were used for internal consumption and 1.81 lakh units were exported to the grid,” said Bharti.

On Friday, CEO of BRPL Amal Sinha presented a cheque of Rs 33.38 lakh to Bharti as SDMC’s earnings after deducting its arrears from previous years. Bharti also announced that the civic agency will be extending the project.
