Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 111 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said while speaking to the media after a coronavirus review meeting here. This is the first time the positive COVID cases crossed 100 on a single day. 22 patients also recovered from the disease on Friday.
50 among the disease confirmed persons returned from abroad while 48 returned from other states. 25 people returned from Maharashtra tested positive for COVID-19 while 10 from Tamil Nadu, 4 from Delhi, 3 each from Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, 1 each from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Lakshadweep were confirmed with the disease. 10 people contracted the disease through contact. Three health workers also are among the newly confirmed positive cases.
Among the new COVID positive cases, 40 are from Palakkad, 18 from Malappuram, 11 from Pathanamthitta, 10 from Ernakulam, 8 from Thrissur, 5 each from Thiruvananthapuram and Alappuzha, 4 from Kozhikode, 3 each from Wayanad and Idukki, 2 from Kollam and 1 each from Kottayam and Kasaragod.
Out of the 22 negative cases, 7 are from Kasaragod, 5 from Thrissur, 4 each from Alappuzha and Ernakulam and 1 each from Kozhikode and Thriuvananthapuram.
So far, Kerala has recorded 1,697 cases out of which 973 are undergoing treatment. Meanwhile, 1,77,106 are kept under observation with 1,75,561 in house/institutional quarantine while 1,545 in hospitals. 247 have been newly admitted to hospitals on Friday.
A total of 3,597 samples were tested on Friday, the CM said and added that the number of hotspots in the state has increased to 128. Among the new hotspots, three are in Wayanad and one each in Kannur and Kozhikode.
