Heavy rain accompanied with lightning and gusty wind is predicted in Lakshadweep and Maldives coasts on May 27 and 28 and in Kerala coast on May 29.

Thiruvananthapuram: As rain is likely to intensify, an yellow alert has been sounded in eight districts of Kerala from Wednesday to Friday.

An yellow alert is issued in Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram and Kozhikode on May 27 and in Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram and Kozhikode on May 28 and in Alappuzha, Ernakulam and Idukki on May 29.

The meteorological department has assessed that the situation is favourable for the onset of southwest monsoon.
