Whitney Houston’s Brother Michael Confessed to Feeling Responsible for Her Death

Whitney’s brother Gary Houston is married to Houston’s former manager Pat Houston, who currently serves as executor of the late singer’s estate.

Pat has faced criticism lately for masterminding the Whitney Houston hologram tour, which many fans see as a money grab.

Meanwhile, her other brother,  Michael Houston, once confessed that he feels responsible for his sister’s death because he introduced her to drugs. 

Houston was found dead in a hotel bathtub in Beverly Hills in February 2012.

According to ABC News, a coroner’s report found traces of cocaine and prescription medications in her system. Her death was ruled an accidental drowning.

Michael and his mother Cissy Houston opened up about their grief in an episode on Oprah’s Next Chapter a year after Whitney’s passing.

During the interview, Michael confessed that he felt responsible for introducing his sister to drugs, despite the long-held belief that it was her ex husband Bobby Brown who turned her on to narcotics.

“It just happened,” said Michael. “She was famous. We were traveling on the road. We had money. We just got caught up. It’s been a battle ever since.”

According to USA Today, Houston’s $20 million estate was left to her daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, but after Whitney’s only child died in 2015, the estate went to Cissy and Whitney’s two brothers.

Bobbi Kristina died at a hospice on July 26, six months after she was found unresponsive in a bathtub. She was 22.

Whitney Houston was found dead hours before she was set to appear at the annual Clive Davis pre-Grammy party. At the time, she mounting a come-back. 

Pat Houston currently serves as the executor of Whitney’s estate upon Cissy’s request.
