Rodney Scott's Whole Hog BBQ opens in Birmingham

A steady stream of barbecue lovers turned out on a soaking-wet Wednesday for the opening of Rodney Scott's BBQ in Birmingham's Avondale area. Scott, a James Beard Award-winning chef who grew up in working in his parents' barbecue restaurant in Hemingway, S.C., partnered with Birmingham restaurateur Nick Pihakis of Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q to start Rodney Scott's BBQ, which also has a location in Charleston, S.C.  "Birmingham is a big city, but it feels like a small town," Scott said Wednesday. "The Southern charm that you encounter here is great."  The restaurant is at 3719 Third Ave. South.
