Portland metro Tuesday weather: Slight chance of showers, cloudy, cool to start, high of 73

A slow system taking a southwesterly route into the metro area will bring a gradual increase in chances for rain through Friday. On Tuesday, clouds will be heavy to start and there’s a 20% chance of showers after about 11 a.m. Later the clouds will give way and skies will turn partly sunny with a high near 73.

As the cold front pushes inland late in the day Tuesday, cooler weather will move in for the remainder of the work week. Wednesday will have chances for showers and thunderstorms. Expect some sun breaks on Wednesday and a high of 70 in Portland. Instability in the atmosphere will extend chances for thunder in the Cascades, but even valley locations could see thunder and lightning in the afternoon and evening on Wednesday and Thursday.

Thursday’s skies will be mostly cloudy with showers likely and a high of only 67 degrees. There's a 70% chance for rain on Thursday, and thunderstorms are also possible. Remember, if you hear thunder, get inside.
