Overnight low temperatures dipped into the 60s on Thursday morning which will also help to cool the fire of Wednesday’s record-setting heat. Troutdale set a record for the highest low temperature ever recorded at 73 on Wednesday. For now, the metro area will return to a more average heating and cooling pattern with temperatures dropping even more on Friday.

Increasing onshore flow will bring more clouds into the valleys on Friday. Most areas will wake to cloudy conditions that will stick around through mid-morning. After lunchtime, expect gradual clearing with a high of only 75, more than 20 degrees cooler than Wednesday. Cities in the southern Willamette Valley could stay cloudy most of the day. This will help Eugene, Corvallis and Albany stay cooler into the weekend.

High pressure will build back in for the weekend clearing out the clouds, but not bringing in any extreme heat. Daytime highs should be closer to seasonal averages, according to the National Weather Service, with most valley locations seeing low 80s on Saturday and Sunday and the coast returning to the 60s for the weekend.
