Portland Wednesday weather: Rain starts late morning, showers through afternoon; high 67

Rain is on the menu Wednesday, but depending on location, some areas could see under a half inch, while others could get extra helpings. Forecasters with the National Weather Service are looking at the possibility that the bulk of this wet system will move over southern and central Oregon and bypass the metro area. That’s not saying the northern Willamette Valley won’t see rain – it will. But the amounts could be light.

Rain should start falling in the Portland area late in the morning and will continue through the day. The weather service says the chances for rain are 90%, so you will see some. Amounts could range from a quarter of an inch to .06 inches at the airport. Eugene is expected to see nearly an inch as will Newport.

It will also be cool Wednesday. With a high of only 67 degrees, Portland will fall nearly 15 degrees below the average for this date. Once the low level front moves across the region Wednesday night, clouds will clear off and temperatures will begin to climb back up toward normal.

A weak system moving down from British Columbia could cloud the skies for Saturday morning and keep temperatures below 80. Forecasters are looking at the possibility of light rain from this system, but it’s still too early to tell. We’ll keep an eye on it.
