Juventus standout Aurora Galli has been one of many bright spots for the Italy national team this summer and she added a third goal in the 2019 Women’s World Cup in her team’s Round of 16 game against China.

Although Aurora Galli only averages about 60 minutes per appearance for Italy in this year’s World Cup, the 22-year-old has been an important contributor to her team’s attack.

After scoring twice in Italy’s 5-0 blowout win over upstarts Jamaica, Galli made more of an impact on defense in a 1-0 loss to Brazil with four tackles and two interceptions.

Galli didn’t start in Italy’s Round of 16 game against China, but she made an impact not long after being subbed on for star striker and fellow Juventus star Christiana Girelli.

Italy had to make the substitution in the 39th minute, as Girelli was dealing with an issue related to the heat in Montpellier.

In the 50th minute, Galli showed why she’s one of the best young players at this year’s World Cup by absolutely driving a shot into the far left corner to give Italy a 2-0 lead.

It was a wonder-strike from Galli, who only needs minutes to find the back of the net, as she showed with her quick brace against Jamaica earlier in the tournament.

Peng Shimeng has been one of the top goalkeepers in the World Cup this year, so it takes a special strike to beat her. This was a special shot indeed from Galli, who has now scored as many goals at this year’s World Cup as she did in Serie A for Juventus last season.

There’s no doubt that Galli’s stock has risen, and she’s played a key role for Italy, even if she’s off the bench. Italy have so much attacking talent and players with technical quality, and Galli is one of them.

This team is one of the darkhorse teams in this year’s tournament and even a perennial powerhouse wouldn’t want to face this squad.
