Derby County fell to their first defeat of the Championship season on Tuesday night, losing 2-1 at home to Bristol City after a below-par performance at Pride Park.

The Rams were bound to feeling confident heading into the clash with the Robins, having gone unbeaten in their first few games of the season and coming from behind to draw 2-2 with Stoke City at the weekend.

But similarly to their first home game of the campaign against Swansea, Phillip Cocu's side failed to break down a resilient, solid opposition unit, with Lee Johnson's men making them count for sloppy play in defence and midfield.

Andi Weimann found himself unmarked in the box to convert from 10 yards out, before dummying a wicked Jack Hunt cross which was met emphatically by Josh Brownhill, putting the Robins into a 2-0 lead at the half-time interval.

In a desperate attempt to get back into the game, Cocu brought on Jack Marriott who made an instant inpact after coming on from off the bench, with the striker bending a sumptuous left-footed effort into the top corner.

After the game, FLW attended Cocu's post-match press conference, where the Dutchman admitted that he did not want to risk Marriott following their recent games against Scunthorpe United and Stoke.

He also admitted that he was in contention to start this weekend's game against West Bromwich Albion - and on Twitter, Derby fans have urged Cocu to start the former Peterborough man.
