#AReSebetseng: Speaker Da Gama and the public get their hands dirty [VIDEO]

JOBURG – "A clean environment shows our children how it should be," said speaker Vasco da Gama.

JOBURG – Gloves and spades for all as the City’s council offices get a clean-up as part of the Speakers #AReSebetseng campaign.

Speaker of Council, Vasco da Gama and his office called on the public to join hands to clean up and rejuvenate the council gardens and surrounding areas. On the morning of 15 September, people arrived in their numbers to answer to the call as part of the A Re Sebetseng (let’s work) campaign.

Da Gama said, “The purpose of today’s project is to support the mayor’s campaign called #AReSebetseng. It’s our responsibility to show the public out there that they should be looking after their own environment. Cleaning around your house or even getting your neighbours to pick up those papers that lie outside.”

#AReSebetseng aims to have people in the city actively and collectively working to make Johannesburg a cleaner place. This session was no different as men and women of all ages and races came together to ensure that the face of the city is a beautiful one.

Da Gama added, “We thought about this project around the headquarters of Johannesburg, all visitors who come to the mayor or come and visit the city or want to invest in the city actually come to this building. The better we make it look, not only by cleaning but also by planting flowers, all the better. We are here to clean the outside of the council chambers.”

Litter was also collected around the City Council offices as part of the A Re Sebtseng campaign hosted by the office of the speaker.
Speaker of the City Council, Vasco da Gama hopes the flowers planted outside the council offices will bring a more beautiful and vibrant look to the heart of the city.
