The Nashville Financial Empowerment Center is offering virtual meetings and adding staff to keep up with demand, the mayor's office announced Tuesday.

Since 2013, the center has offered free, one-on-one professional financial counseling to help Nashvillians create budgets, manage bills and assist in other financial needs. Over these years, professionals have helped 8,000 residents reduce debt by $15.3 million and increased savings by $3 million.

Now, to help navigate the COVID-19 pandemic, virtual services are being offered and more staff is being added to keep up with demand.

“The COVID-19 public health crisis has strained finances for many Nashvillians,” said Mayor John Cooper. “If you have questions about how to manage your budget during this time of historic challenge, or if you just want an objective review of your financial picture, do not hesitate to reach out to the Financial Empowerment Center for help. This service is free to all residents of Nashville and Davidson County.”

The center is made possible by a grant from the Cities for Financial Empowerment—a national organization that helps cities across the U.S. embed financial empowerment programs within their local governments.
