UPDATE:

Metro Police have identified a young man killed on I-24 Tuesday morning after police said he apparently got out of his vehicle after a separate crash and was struck.

Andres Perez, 20, of Nashville was killed after being struck on I-24 WB near Harding Place.

Perez was traveling westbound in a car when, for unknown reasons, he lost control and came to a stop in the third lane. Police said Perez got out of his car after that incident, presumably to inspect his vehicle, when another westbound driver, a 51-year-old man, struck Perez' car.

Perez was critically injured in the crash and later died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Charges aren't anticipated in the crash and police say there were no signs of drug or alcohol use.

UPDATE:

Interstate 24 westbound in Nashville has reopened after a deadly crash Tuesday morning.

The accident at mile marker 53 occurred at 4:30 a.m. near Harding Place and has since cleared. Police say a 20-year-old male passenger of one of the vehicles was ejected from the vehicle and has died.

Traffic was backed up for miles and being diverted to alternate routes.
