Metro Police said the man wanted for murdering a west Nashville husband and stabbing his wife has been shot and killed in an altercation with authorities in Texas.

Peter Bohning, 34, of Connecticut was wanted in the robbery and stabbing in west Nashville along Cherokee Road Friday afternoon. Donald Zirkle was killed and his wife Leigh Ann is hospitalized with stab wounds.

Metro Police said a Gaines County, Texas deputy encountered Bohning Monday morning while answering a suspicious vehicle call, which turned out to be the vehicle stolen from the west Nashville crime scene.

Texas Highway Patrol told FOX 17 News that a deputy pulled Bohning over and when asked for identification, Bihning stabbed the deputy. The deputy then defended himself and shot the suspect. He later died in the hospital.

The deputy's injuries are considered non-life threatening and the officer was taken to an El Paso hospital in stable condition.

Metro Police say the Zirkles where sitting on their back porch when the suspect approached them asking for directions on Friday. He then attacked the couple with a sharp object and stole the victims' 2010 gray Toyota Camry. Officers found Leigh Ann collapsed in the street with multiple wounds, including a stab wound to her neck. Donald was found inside the home also with multiple stab wounds, he later died at the hospital.
