SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KTXL) — Hundreds of protesters packed downtown Sacramento streets Sunday in the city’s third night of protests.

As crowds gathered early in the evening to protest the killing of George Floyd in Minnesota, city transportation officials canceled bus and light rail service into the downtown area.

Community volunteers also gathered to clean and repair the damage left behind after numerous businesses were ransacked by looters late Saturday night.

“If the police love the community and the community love the police, who’s getting smoked out here? Who’s getting shot out here? Who’s getting killed out here? Nobody, because we love each other,” said one protester.

As night began, the protests were declared an unlawful assembly and police shot rubber bullets and tear gas into crowds.

Other groups also began to loot for the second straight night, with other incidences of vandalism.

According to the Sacramento Police Department, 22 people were arrested for theft and three people were arrested for failing to disperse on Sunday night.
