SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KTXL) — The second night of protests in Sacramento turned violent late Saturday night.
Protesters gathered at the State Capitol around 9 a.m. chanting “I can’t breathe.” Throughout Saturday, the march went through downtown and Old Sacramento.
During the day, some protesters stopped people who were trying to incite violence or throw objects.
But at some point during the protest, the California Peace Officers’ Memorial was vandalized. The Sacramento County Jail also had some windows smashed.
Once night began, people began to throw objects at police near the Sacramento County Jail, which led to officers shooting tear gas and rubber bullets into the crowd.
Around 10 p.m., Kicx Unlimited had its windows smashed and people began to loot. MetroPCS was also reportedly targeted.
Due to reports of vandalism and looting, the Sacramento Police Department announced it would be deploying its officers along with help from outside agencies.
