For 84 years, the nation's longest high school football all star game has been played in Lackawanna County.

The 85th edition is coming up next Wednesday in Peckville

Honesdale football coach mike Jurkowski will lead the county team for the first time in his 6 years with the hornets. With only three practices so far he likes what he has seen.

"Just having a bunch of those Valley view kids, we have 8 kids from Valley view with the run that they had into states. Old Forge which has a big tradition of winning, we have a bunch of kids from their team. So just put all of this talent together and we just had a lot of fun has a coaching staff yesterday working with these kids," said Mike Jurkowski, a county coach.

"A lot of my Uncles and my dad and it has become a family tradition. If you play football you better make this team," said Mason Kordish, The Valley View Running Back

The Hornets staff will have 5 of their own players including their quarterback Ethan Dunn who is the only signal caller listed on the roster. Western Wayne's Dylan Walck will see some time underneath center as well.

"It is great, I love it I don't have a problem with it at all. I love to go out there, I love these guys and I love to practice with them. There are a whole bunch of Valley View guys out there and a big, big offensive line. I am going to feel real comfortable back there," said Ethan Dunn, Honesdale quarterback.

One of the fantastic things about all star game and the dream game is the friendships that develop between players that once battled on the football field and now have a common goal.

"Probably the kids from Lakeland because they beat us pretty good as sophomores. They are good kids, it is nice playing with them now," said Connor Judge, Valley View Center

"It is different, we are not lining up across each other anymore. We will come together and play together as a team," added Dunn.

As a team the county is looking to get back at the city which won last year's game by 29 points.

"We are all football players at heart. Yea we are going to go out and have fun and it is an all star game but at the end of the day we all just want to win," said Dunn.

"Everyone is super talented from what I can see and the city better watch out," said Kordish.
