Harry Maguire targeted as weak link: Leicester City internationals

It’s no secret that Harry Maguire‘s form has dipped of late from his usually high quality standards. Yet he is still expected to start for England, with a Czech Republic international stating the Leicester City man will be targeted as a weak link.

Leicester City’s Harry Maguire is an undoubtedly exceptional and seminal modern-day defender. His repertoire is eclectic, with the joining of disparate skills. For example, crunching challenges married with deft, delicate floating of the ball. While dribbling daintily, for a big man, past opponents.

All in all this faithful Fox feels privileged to have the Englishman at the King Power Stadium. Just think of some of the dire, feckless mediocrity we’ve had to endure as representatives of our club – as they let 4-0 in against ordinary teams.

To be honest Foxes of Leicester would take a currently disappointing Maguire over many of our centre-backs from the previous decade or in fact longer.

Despite his poorer form than usual of late, the 26-year-old is an England international is a favourite under boss Gareth Southgate. And to that end Maguire is of course in the squad and expected to start versus the Czech Republic on Friday evening, in a Euro 2020 qualifier at Wembley.

Leicester City player targeted

In the days leading up to the clash between the two nations, Czech striker Matej Vydra believes his Premier League rival is a weak link in the England side that his teammates can exploit:

"“The attack is very strong. Defence, I don’t say it’s not strong as well, but it’s not as strong as the attack.“For example, Maguire. We talked about him at Burnley before we played against Leicester. Naturally Vydra isn’t insinuating there’s an asthenic nature to Maguire; in reality we are all aware of the defender’s virility. What the Burnley forward is saying is that the Three Lions’ attack are better than their defence.

That could be an underestimate of Southgate’s back line, who performed brilliantly at the World Cup. Though, as stated previously, Maguire’s qualities haven’t been on show in recent displays.

Another area Vydra should be careful of is divulging information on target players for tough treatment – expect the Claret to get intensely but legally smashed by the opposition at some point. Probably by the former Sheffield United player himself.
