Country Financial, Springfield firefighters team up to provide smoke alarms

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS/WRSP) — Country Financial has donated $7,500 toward the Springfield Fire Department's Smoke Detector Installation Program.

The fire department hosted a joint press conference Monday at Station One in Springfield.

The donation will come from County Financial's Helping Heroes Program.

The fire department said the donation will allow fire crews to target hundreds of homes without smoke and carbon dioxide detectors.

"With the check we received today from Country Financial, we should be able to purchase over 300 combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms," Springfield Fire Marshal Chris Richmond said.

The Springfield Fire Department has installed more than 3,000 detectors in about 1,500 homes since 2015.
