Donating blood can be live-saving, especially during a global pandemic.

Rep. Tim Butler, R-Springfield, and Rep. Mike Murphy, R-Springfield, sponsored a community blood drive on Wednesday, Aug. 5, to address the blood shortage.

The representatives said the Central Illinois Community Blood Center and their experienced staff have extensive safety protocols in place to give blood.

"This is our main donor center here in Springfield on Wabash, and we have operations here seven days a week," said Central Illinois Community Blood Center Manager of Donor Relations Jim Watts. "If anyone wants to, they can go online and make an appointment."
