2 killed, others hurt in Nevada mine bus crash

Authorities in rural northeastern Nevada say a mine bus collided head-on with a tractor-trailer rig Saturday, killing two people and injuring others.

The Nevada Highway Patrol said a preliminary investigation indicates a semi-tractor trailer crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a Coach USA mine bus. There were 21 occupants on the bus.

One occupant on the bus died on the scene, according to the NHP. That victim has since been identified as 62-year-old Rocky Witt from Spring Creek, Nevada.

Officials said the driver of the tractor-trailer, 29-year-old Andrew Nash from Spring Creek, was also killed in the crash.

According to officials, all the bus occupants were transported to NNRH in Elko. Five are in critical condition.

Buses transport miners to the region's gold mines in shifts.

Nevada Gold Mines ' website says it operates eight mines along with processing facilities and is a joint venture between Barrick Gold Corp. and Newmont Goldcorp Corp.

Carlin is 213 miles (341 kilometers) east of Reno.
