Right now, our family is hurting. Our Black community is once again hurting from the unearthing of systemic anti-Black violence and the systems that perpetuate it. The murders of Mr. Floyd, Ms. Taylor, Mr.  Arbery  and too many more, retraumatize Black communities across the nation and serve as a reminder that their human dignity is constantly in jeopardy.   
   
The Providence College Athletics Department will not be complicit and silent regarding injustices that affect the Black community. We denounce all forms of racism, bigotry and violence, as well as individuals and systems that perpetrate this hate.  
   
The Black community has played an important role in shaping  Friartown. Our story, our culture and our success would not exist without them. As we seek to be a stronger family, a leader on campus, and a leader in the BIG EAST, we must continue to uphold our core values – Valiance, Excellence, Respect, Integrity, Trust, Accountability and Service.    
   
We must uphold the  truth  that Black Lives Matter. We must uphold the commitment to creating the culture where every member of our department, including our student-athletes, is cherished and respected.    
  
To our Black student-athletes, we see you, we hear you, we stand with you, we fight for you, and we will always support you. The change starts with us.
