Londoners will want to keep an umbrella handy.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the region, noting that several rounds of showers will move through the area Thursday afternoon and evening. Thunderstorms are possible.

Roughly 10 mm of rainfall is expected but if storms develop that estimate could climb to 15 to 25 mm before the end of the day.

The weather agency also notes that the ground is still frozen and, in some places, covered in snow. Rain and mild temperatures could make for snowmelt or runoff resulting in ponding on streets and other low-lying areas.

As of mid-afternoon on Thursday, the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority did not expect any serious flooding but noted that water levels will be elevated and the public should exercise extreme caution and stay off all bodies of water.
