Oral Roberts, South Dakota State to Challenge Bison this Week

The Games:  The North Dakota State men's basketball team (13-12 overall, 7-4 Summit League) puts its four-game winning streak on the line against fifth-place Oral Roberts and first-place South Dakota State this week inside the Scheels Center on campus. The Bison have won seven of their last nine games entering this week.
 
Where to Watch: Both games will be broadcast on Midco Sports Network and available at GoBison.com/allaccess. Thursday's game vs. ORU will be streamed on ESPN3, and Saturday's game vs. SDSU will be on ESPN+.
 
Radio: Both games will be broadcast on 107.9 The Fox and Bison1660, as well as being streamed on the 107.9 The Fox app, the Bison1660 app, and on GoBison.com/allaccess. Jeff Culhane and Jeremy Jorgenson will call the action.
 
About Oral Roberts: The Golden Eagles are 10-17 overall and 6-6 in The Summit League entering the week.  ORU is 3-10 on the road this season. Junior forward Emmanuel Nzekwesi leads the team in scoring (14.9 ppg) and rebounding (8.3 rpg), with freshman Kevin Obanor adding 14.6 points per game.
 
History with Oral Roberts: Thursday will be the 25th meeting between North Dakota State and Oral Roberts dating back to 1967-68, with the series knotted at 12-12. The Bison have won 7 of the last 10 meetings.
 
Last Time vs. Oral Roberts: The Bison closed with a 15-5 run at ORU on Jan. 26, earning a 67-57 win over the Golden Eagles.
          With the game tied 52-52 with five minutes remaining, the Bison scored seven straight points to go ahead 59-52. Vinnie Shahid and Rocky Kreuser combined to score 13 of NDSU's 15 in the final five minutes.
          Shahid led all players with 23 points. Tyson Ward had 11 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Bison, and Kreuser added 11 points and six rebounds.
          NDSU rebounded from 27-percent shooting in the first half to shoot 54 percent over the final 20 minutes. The Bison made 11-of-30 (37 percent) from beyond the arc.
 
About South Dakota State: The Jackrabbits are 20-6 overall and 10-1 in The Summit League entering this week, with a game at Omaha on Thursday night. Reigning Summit League Player of the Year Mike Daum leads SDSU with 25.0 points and 11.6 rebounds per game – also the top marks in the conference. Sophomore David Jenkins is second on the team and second in the league with 19.1 points per game.
        SDSU ranks third in the NCAA in overall field goal percentage this season, as well as ranking fifth in the nation in three-point shooting percentage.
 
History with South Dakota State: Saturday will be the 223rd meeting between North Dakota State and South Dakota State dating back to 1909-10.  NDSU leads the series 117-105. The Bison have won 11 of the last 13 meetings in Fargo.
 
Last Time vs. South Dakota State: Mike Daum scored 30 points and David Jenkins added 25 for SDSU as the Jackrabbits posted an 87-69 win over NDSU on Jan. 24 inside Frost Arena.
          Daum grabbed 17 rebounds and made 11-of-15 shots in the contest.
          NDSU junior Tyson Ward had 18 points, 12 rebounds and four assists to lead the Bison. Deng Geu scored 12 points for NDSU, and Cameron Hunter tallied 11 points and four assists. South Dakota State shot nearly 62 percent in the first half to build a 44-25 advantage at halftime.

Food Fight: NDSU's Student-Athlete Advisory Council will be collecting non-perishable food and monetary donations at both games for this year's Summit League "Food Fight," an annual competition among Summit League member schools. All donations will benefit the Fargo-Moorhead Emergency Food Pantry.
 
Vin Diesel: Over the past five games, Vinnie Shahid is averaging 17.8 points and 3.2 assists, while shooting 56 percent overall and 45 percent from beyond the arc. He is averaging 21.5 points per game in NDSU's current four-game winning streak.
 
Four-Game Win Streak: NDSU has a four-game winning streak for the first time since the 2016-17 season, when the Bison started league play 4-0 with victories over South Dakota State, Omaha, IUPUI and South Dakota between Dec. 28 and Jan. 11.
 
Going For Five: A victory over Oral Roberts would give NDSU its first five-game winning streak since the 2014-15 season. NDSU won five straight in Summit League play that year between Jan. 29 and Feb. 12.
 
90 Wins: The 81-71 victory over Denver on Feb. 9 was the 90th career win for NDSU head coach David Richman. He is on pace to be the second-fastest to 100 victories in school history.

Three-dy: Redshirt freshman Tyree Eady scored a season-high 16 points on 6-for-9 shooting off the bench in NDSU's win over Denver on Feb. 9. He made a season-best four three-pointers.
 
Just A Minute: Trailing 56-55 with 6:00 remaining at UND on Feb. 6, the Bison exploded for a 10-0 run in the span of just one minute.
          Vinnie Shahid and Cameron Hunter got to the rim for back-to-back buckets, then Ward stole the ball from UND's Billy Brown as the Fighting Hawks looked to take a timeout. Ward drilled a dagger three-pointer from the corner.
          Shahid capped the 10-0 run with a three-point play, and NDSU led 65-56 with 4:59 left.
 
Defending the Arc: The Bison held UND without a three-pointer in the first half on Feb. 6 for the first time this season, as the Fighting Hawks matched a season-low with three treys in the game.
 
Free Throw Shooting: The Bison rank fifth in the nation in free throw shooting at 77.6 percent.
 
22 for Geu: Junior Deng Geu poured in a career-high 22 points in NDSU's 78-76 victory at Western Illinois on Feb. 2. Geu went 8-for-12 from the floor and buried a season-high three 3-pointers in 17 minutes of action against the Leathernecks.
 
Sammy Hoops: Since his return to the starting lineup vs. Western Illinois on Jan. 10, freshman Sam Griesel is averaging 7.5 points and 4.7 rebounds while shooting 50 percent overall.
 
Free Points: Rocky Kreuser has made 21 consecutive free throws without a miss, and has converted 31 of his last 32 at the charity stripe. He has not missed a free throw since Dec. 29 vs. South Dakota.
 
New Balance: The Bison have seven players averaging at least 20 minutes per game this season. In the school's Division I era (2004-present), NDSU has never had more than six players average 20-plus minutes for a season.
 
Twin Cities Takeover: Tied at 52-52 at Oral Roberts with five minutes remaining, Vinnie Shahid and Rocky Kreuser combined to score 13 of NDSU's final 15 points to pull out a 67-57 road win. The Bison closed the game on a 15-5 run.
 
Bench Scoring: NDSU is getting 40 percent of its scoring (29.4 ppg) from bench players through 25 games.
 
Double-Double: Tyson Ward had 18 points and 12 rebounds at South Dakota State on Jan. 24, recording his second double-double of the season and the eighth of his career.
 
Limited Turnovers & Fouls: NDSU ranks 18th in the nation for fewest fouls committed per game (15.1) and 46th nationally for fewest turnovers committed per game (11.4).
