NEW YORK – A pair of Columbia men's basketball alumni have signed with new teams in Europe over the past month. Maodo Lo '16CC will play in his hometown for ALBA Berlin of the German League, Meisner is also returning home to Lowen Braunschweig, while Petrasek moves from Germany to Russia where he will play for Nizhny Novgorod.
Lo will enter his fifth professional season and averaged 9.0 points on 43-percent shooting from beyond the arc to go with 3.3 assists and 1.9 rebounds per game for Bayern Munich. The former standout point guard played two seasons for Bayern after spending two seasons with Brose Bamberg. Lo has won a pair of German League Championships (2018 Bamburg, 2019 Munich).
Meisner enjoyed a two-year stint at Medi Bayreuth and netted 10.2 points (shooting 43.6 percent from 3-point range) and pulled down 3.8 rebounds and dished out 1.3 assists last season.
Petrasek is coming off a campaign where he posted 10.9 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.9 blocks for the Giessen 46ers. The 6-11 forward began his career with the Greensboro Swarm (Charlotte Hornets) in the NBA G League before moving on to Germany prior to the 2019-20 season.
Additionally, Columbia had two more former student-athletes continue their playing careers in the NBA G League prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and one in Japan. Kyle Castlin '18CC made 11 appearances for the Salt Lake City Stars (Utah Jazz), averaging 4.6 points and 2.5 rebounds after a graduate transfer year at Xavier. Nate Hickman '18CC was also re-signed by the Westchester Knicks (New York Knicks) in February, checking in to one contest. KJ Matsui '09CC netted 12.0 points per game on 47.2 percent shooting from 3-point range and 3.4 rebounds per contest in 41 games with Kyoto Hannaryz in the Japanese "B League."
