Bluejay Women Head to South Dakota to Face Coyotes

Omaha, Neb. -- Riding a four-game winning streak, the Creighton women's basketball team faces another stiff test as the Bluejays battle South Dakota (RV) on Wednesday, Dec. 4th in Vermillion, S.D. The Bluejays are also receiving votes in both the AP and Coaches Poll entering the contest.

Scouting South Dakota (7-1)
South Dakota is off to a hot start as the Coyotes lone loss came to #22 Missouri State on Nov. 25. South Dakota is coming off a pair of win over Ohio State and Northern Illinois in the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout.

Four Coyotes are averaging double-digits this season, led by 17.6 ppg and 6.5 rpg from senior Ciara Duffy. South Dakota is a team that likes to shoot the three, shooting 41.5 percent from long range this season. The Coyotes also are a team that gets to the foul line a bunch (making a 110-of-145, 75.9 percent, this season).

Scouting Creighton (6-1)
The Bluejays are riding a four game win streak including victories over instate rival Nebraska 79-74 and an 82-75 win over #23 West Virginia at the Cancun Challenge on Nov. 28 to start the season 6-1. The Bluejays only loss came in the hands of Drake on Nov. 16.

Creighton's hot start has came behind the efforts of the veterans. Four starters are averaging in double-digits with senior Jaylyn Agnew leading the way with 20 ppg and 6.7 rpg while playing 37.9 minutes a game.

The Bluejays have turned to their defense early on this season forcing teams into 14 turnovers per game, which transitions to their offense as Creighton is shooting 35.8 percent (69-of-193) from behind the arc

Bluejays' Hot Start Has Gained Some National Attention
Off to a 6-1 start, including wins over South Dakota State, Nebraska and #23 West Virginia, the Bluejays gained a measure of national attention during the first week of December as the Bluejays are receiving votes in both the AP and USA Today/Coaches Polls, released Dec. 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Bluejays Have Taken First Three Quarters From Summit League
Four of Creighton's non-conference opponents during the 2019-20 season are from the Summit League. The Bluejays defeated Nebraska-Omaha 67-54 to open the season, then bested South Dakota State 61-48 in the second game of the year. Creighton's third victory came on Nov. 18, an 70-59 over North Dakota State. The final game against a Summit League team comes on Wednesday at South Dakota.

Agnew Hauled in National Jesuit Player of the Week, An All-Tournament Selection and her Second Straight BIG EAST Player of the Week After Her 34-Point Performance against #23 West Virginia
Coming off back-to-back 20+ point games against North Dakota State (25 points on Nov. 18th) and Nebraska (26 points on Nov. 24th), Agnew took her game to another level with a career-high 34 points to push the Bluejays past #23 West Virginia in the opening game for each squad at the Cancun Challenge on Nov. 28th. Jaylyn followed her efforts against the Mountaineers with 15 points in the Bluejays' 69-59 win over Temple on Nov. 29th.

Agnew's efforts led her to be named the National Jesuit Basketball Player of the Week on Dec. 3rd. Agnew also earned her second straight BIG EAST Player of the Week award on Dec. 2nd and was named to the Cancun Challenge All-Tournament Team.

Rembao Was This _ Close
It's been over 14 years since a Bluejay posted a triple-double, but Tatum Rembao came so close. Rembao finished with 19 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds in the Bluejays' win over No. 23 West Virginia on Nov. 28 in the Cancun Challenge.

The last triple-double in Bluejay history came in 2004 as Laura Spanheimer notched 12 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists in the Bluejays' 87-69 win over Indiana State on Jan. 8.

Saunders May Have Some Explaining to Do To Santa
Playing in her first game all year, sophomore Rachel Saunders earned her way onto the naughty list. The Iowa native received a technical foul in the first quarter against West Virginia on Nov. 28th. Saunders is the first Bluejay player to be given a technical since Kristina Voss claimed the last two during an Feb. 27, 2009 game with Drake and a Feb. 24, 2006 game with Indiana State.

Head coach Jim Flanery picked up his last technical during the 2015-16 season, earning two technicals during the year. Flanery has accounted for seven of the 13 technical fouls during his tenure at Creighton.
